Amy L. Johnson
Amy L. Johnson, Ph.D., founder of The Gathering Space, is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in working with children, adolescents, couples, and families. She received her doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has trained in a variety of clinical settings including public school systems, community mental health centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient mental health clinics.
Dr. Johnson's professional interests include clinical training and supervision, community mental health, multicultural psychology, and family systems. She is currently a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Network for Multiculturally-Trained Professionals (NMTP), and the APA Minority Fellowship Program (MFP). Dr. Johnson enjoys teaching and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Allied Health Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Courses she has taught include Abnormal Psychology, Competent Christian Counseling, Diversity and Mental Health, Issues in Human Sexuality, Multicultural Developmental Counseling, and Theories of Psychotherapy.
Clinically, Dr. Johnson provides individual and group psychotherapy, parent training, psychological evaluations and assessments, as well as consultation to schools, medical facilities and related agencies. She approaches assessment and treatment from a strength-based perspective, often relying heavily on a systems approach. She also approaches treatment from a variety of psychological orientations based on her clients' needs, including the integration of spirituality.
Dr. Johnson's inspiration comes from her family and her passion for story-telling, particularly for the understated legacies in communities of color.

Marc Johnson
Marc Johnson, M.A. is co-founder of The Gathering Space. Marc received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Religion and Ministry from Luther Rice University and is licensed and ordained in Christian ministry. Marc has also held multiple positions at Duke University, gaining experience in financial services and grants administration. He received certification from Duke's Research Academy and has also been certified as a Financial Specialist.
Marc provides pastoral counseling at The Gathering Space and also participates in mentoring services offered. His primary passion is serving others by enhancing and engaging faith communities. He has also served as advisor to multiple student organizations including Duke's IMPACT fellowship. He is valued for his unique leadership perspectives and has, relatedly, formed alliances and connections with many community leaders and pastors. Marc's inspiration comes from his own faith journey and his desire to help others toward wellness and wholeness.

Claire Scalise
Claire Scalise, M.S., CRC, LCMHC, is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She received her Master of Science degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Claire completed her clinical internships at UNC Hospitals, UNC Center for Transplant Care and The Gathering Space.
Clinically, Claire provides individual and group psychotherapy, as well as psychological evaluations and assessments. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT- 200) through Yoga Alliance and offers yoga+therapy classes through TGS's Healing Through Yoga series. She approaches treatment from a variety of psychological techniques and orientations, based on her client’s individual needs and goals. Claire is passionate about developing client rapport and providing a supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental counseling environment.

Shannon Mulloy
Shannon Mulloy, M.S., CRC, LCMHCA, is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in North Carolina and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She earned her Master of Science degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shannon also spent four years working in wilderness therapy and residential treatment with adolescents prior to earning her degree, which influences her current approach to psychotherapy.
Shannon provides individual psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and assessments. In addition to in-office sessions, Shannon provides individual and group horticulture therapy sessions at our farm space in Carrboro. Clinically, she integrates a variety of therapeutic techniques and practices to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. Shannon feels passionately about creating a supportive counseling environment that views clients holistically and without judgement.

Gloria Evans
Mrs. Gloria provides administrative and office management support to the TGS team. She keeps us all together! Her background in administration and communication stems from a 26-year career with AT&T (formerly BellSouth). When not at TGS she enjoys being "Mom" to her granddaughter, Amaris. Mrs. Gloria is passionate about her work and she is passionate about helping people feel comfortable in our space.
